This is a walking tour that reads Strasbourg like a layered text — starting with the river and defenses, moving through the working canals of Petite France, into the city's Reformation history, its medieval trade streets, and finally its intellectual and political transformations around Place Gutenberg, the Cathedral and Palais Rohan. Rather than jumping between isolated landmarks, the walk connects them into one continuous narrative: how geography shaped defense, how water shaped craft and commerce, how commerce shaped prosperity, and how prosperity eventually gave rise to printing, Humanism and the great buildings that still define the old city today. Along the way we'll pass through Petite France, Saint-Thomas Church, the Ancienne Douane, Place Gutenberg, Strasbourg Cathedral, Maison Kammerzell and Palais Rohan — reading the streets, guild names and facades as evidence of how the city actually worked, not just as pretty backdrops.
